Convert psi to MPa

Pressure (psi):
Pressure (MPa):

The calculator allows you to convert psi (pounds per inch square) to MPa (megapascal).

Perform the reverse calculation: convert MPa to psi

1 psi = 0.00689476 MPa (approximately egal to)
1 MPa = 145.0377 psi (approximately egal to)

To convert psi to MPa, multiply by 0.00689476.

Example 1

We are going to convert a pressure p of 32 pounds per inch square (psi) to MPa.
Pressure p = 32 psi
1 psi = 0.00689476 MPa (approximately egal to)
p = 32 psi = 32 x 0.00689476 = 0.22 MPa (approximately egal to)

Example 2

We are going to convert 500 psi to MPa.
500 psi x 0.00689476 = 3.45 MPa

Example 3

We are going to convert 8 000 psi to MPa.
8 000 psi x 0.00689476 = 55.16 MPa

Example 4

We are going to convert 1 500 psi to MPa.
1500 psi x 0.00689476 = 10.34 MPa

Psi (pound per inch square)

Psi stands for "pounds per square inch" which is a unit of pressure. It is defined as the pressure exerted by a force of one pound-force applied to an area of one square inch.

Pressure is a physical quantity that is commonly measured using various units of measurement. Pressure is defined as the force applied per unit area, and is expressed in units such as pascal (Pa), bar, pounds per square inch (psi), and atmosphere (atm), among others.

MPa (megapascal)

MPa stands for Megapascal, which is a unit of pressure measurement in the International System of Units (SI). One pascal is defined as the pressure generated by a force of one newton acting on an area of one square meter, and one megapascal is equal to one million pascal. To give you an idea of the magnitude of pressure that can be expressed in MPa, the atmospheric pressure at sea level is approximately 101.325 kPa, or 0.101325 MPa. A car tire pressure can range from around 200 kPa to 400 kPa, or 0.2 MPa to 0.4 MPa. Meanwhile, the pressure at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, can reach over 100 MPa.

The symbol for megapascal is "MPa". It is a combination of the prefix "Mega" which means one million and the unit of pressure "Pascal". So, 1 MPa means 1 million pascal. Pa, kPa, MPa, and GPa are all units of pressure. kPa (Kilopascal) is equal to 1000 pascal and GPa (Gigapascal) is equal to one billion pascal.
